A water leak detector is a relatively inexpensive device
Description: |
The new portable tool, called SMART-Spray, works with INFICON’s UL1000, 3000, 5000 and 6000 series leak detectors, which are widely used in semiconductor, solar cell and electronics manufacturing plants.
Spraying a large amount of helium uncontrolled, instead of delivering a small microdose like SMART-Spray, can also result in the release of significant amounts of helium into the atmosphere of the manufacturing plant. This is an unnecessary waste, but also results in higher levels of background helium, making the detection of leaks in the system under test more difficult and time consuming.
At the same time, test engineers usually have to hold a wired or wireless remote control in the other hand to operate the leak detection system. This makes it particularly difficult when engineers have limited access to certain parts of the system and do not have their hands free to support them.
The
A water leak detector is a relatively inexpensive device that alerts you to the presence of a leak in your home. Similar to smoke or carbon monoxide detectors, the most basic options cost $50 or less and give an audible alarm if water is detected. You place them in places where a leak might occur, such as under a washing machine or in a kitchen cabinet.
Most water leak detectors on the market today are smart, complete with an app that sends an alert to your smartphone (which is certainly useful if you’re not home) to alert you to a “problem.” More advanced (and expensive) water leak detectors go even further, with an automatic shut-off valve on your home’s main water supply to prevent flooding.
A few years ago, a simple A water leak detector under my bathroom sink could have woken me from a deep sleep before my apartment was flooded by a swarm. The damage was covered by my homeowners insurance. In fact, water damage from burst or frozen pipes is one of the most common property damage issues for which homeowners in the United States file claims. But replacing the flooring and moving all my furniture in and out was a long and stressful job.
